RADIO CLASS GRADUATES
One Thing Leads to
Another!
"Apprenticeship training has provided an amazing entry into my chosen
field," says Teresa Spencer. "And as far as I can see, it has launched me
into a long-time career — the kind of career I've always fantasized
about."
She served her internship at 104.9 Clear FM, and couldn't have been
happier. "Mike Sherlock was an amazing mentor," she enthuses. "I would
recommend him to anyone wishing to join your program." Mike also helped
Teresa take the next step.
"With the skills I have developed and the demo put together by Mike and
myself, I found my dream job in radio," she explains. Teresa landed at
97.1 Free FM, one of the leading stations in Los Angeles, and featuring
ex-Partridge Family actor, Danny Bonaduce, behind the mike.
But it didn't end there. From the connections she made at the station,
Spencer was able to work on the VH1 hit reality show, 'Breaking Bonaduce.'
"I really do appreciate this opportunity that was given me. Thanks a
million!"
Right Place, Right
Time!
Though Howard Cohen had some experience in Radio, he decided to use the
course to hone his skills — as well as to get his foot in the door in the
competitive L.A. market.
"I found the sections on Voice Breathing, Copywriting and our
Commercial Creation particularly helpful," he says. "Your course made it
easy. It taught me many things I did not know," he continues. "And on
things I did know, it either reinforced that I was doing it
right, or showed me a way to improve or make it better."
Howard especially took to heart the philosphy we have here at ZDT: Make
it happen for yourself.
While attending a media event, Howard saw the pressline crew was
overburdened with gear. He jumped in and offered to help — an offer which
they accepted gladly. One of the technicians asked Cohen to hold the
microphone and wires; then they all proceded to the front of the red
carpet.
Luckily, Howard just happened to be standing there holding the
microphone when Britney Spears walked up . . . so he ended up interviewing
her! Needless to say, this did not go unnoticed, as it was caught on
film!
His "can do" attitude, along with his newly sharpened radio chops,
helped him land a gig at KLSK 97.1 in Los Angeles. In fact, Howard wound
up with his own show!
Value
Packed! "In actuality, I never thought I'd ever get to work at a radio
station," explains Jamie Kafmen.
"But not only did I store a full-time
position, I
was bombarded with good wishes from the rest
of the
staff."
"Congratulations," "You deserve it for all the
hard work you do," and
other positive messages were the result of Jamie's hire.
"I can tell you from personal experience that apprenticeship training
is definitely worth every penny!"
